Natasha Richardson’s Son Rewatches ‘The Parent Trap’ To Remember Her

It’s over a decade since actor Natasha Richardson tragically died at the age of 45 following a skiing accident in Canada. Her sudden death was mourned by fans around the world and she was survived by her husband, Liam Neeson, as well as their two children. Speaking about his mother, the actor’s youngest son, Micheál Richardson, revealed that he watches his late mother’s films including The Parent Trap to keep her memory alive.

During an interview with People, Micheál revealed that he revisits the ‘90s classic to watch Natasha’s portrayal of Elizabeth James – the mother of twins Hallie and Annie (Lindsay Lohan) – as the character is close to how he remembers his late mother. “I just see her so much as that person,” he revealed. “I’m so lucky too, because she’s passed away, I can still watch her and see how she worked and also it’s a great thing to have,” he continued. “And I do [watch her movies], but there’s still a lot there I need to watch.”

In a separate interview with The Times, Micheál also explained that he revisits his mother’s filmography to “latch on to the tiny little memories.” He added, “Whether it’s her laugh or her energy in the room or her cooking. I do have her films to go back and watch her in, which I’m incredibly grateful for.”

Speaking to People, Micheál previously opened up about how he dealt with the grief of suddenly losing a parent, sharing that he found it healthier “to remember” his mother rather than block out what had happened. “When you lose somebody so close to you, sometimes you just push it away and out of your head because the thought of them hurts. But I found that’s an unhealthy thing to do.”

Micheál, who is following in Natasha’s footsteps in the sphere of acting, also took on his mother’s surname in 2019. “It was a way to honor her and her side of the family and carry on the name,” he explained.
