Kelly Clarkson revealed her female friendships helped her find “strength” amid her divorce from Brandon Blackstock.
While interviewing Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer of The Chicks on her talk show, Clarkson, 40, asked how they each found strength during their respective divorces.
“So, we all went through divorces,” Clarkson — who split from her talent manager husband in 2020 after seven years — said on Monday’s show. “How did you each find strength? And not just music, I think it’s therapeutic. But, like, your female friendships? I feel like that has really helped me.”
Maguire, who was married to Ted Seidel from 1995 to 1999 and Gareth Maguire from 2001 to 2013, revealed she and Maines became “divorce buddies” in the early days of their careers.
“I was feeling like everybody was gonna judge me because I thought I was first,” she explained, noting that Maines told the group she was splitting from first husband, Michael Tarabay, at the same time.
“So I was like, ‘Guys, I’m getting a divorce.’ And Martie’s like, ‘I’m having a horrible marriage!’ … We were divorce buddies,” Maines chimed in.
Clarkson, who shares daughter River, 7, and son Remington, 6, with Blackstock was awarded primary custody of her kids.
Her ex-husband, who resides in Montana, will have the kids one weekend a month. The “American Idol” alum also got the former couple’s Montana ranch.
Clarkson recently made another life change when she legally changed her name to Kelly Brianne.
In court docs obtained by Page Six, she argued that going by her first and middle names “more fully reflects who I am.”
